The Colonels football team looks to bounce back from last weekend’s loss to Jacksonville State as they hit the road to play University of Tennessee Martin this Saturday.

Head coach Mark Elder is looking to put the Jacksonville St. game in the rearview mirror.

“We got out coached, out toughed, out performed, out executed, out everything… It is on me solely and we are regrouping and moving on,” said Elder in a press conference on Monday.

Looking at the EKU and UT Martin offenses, EKU averages 242.2 yards per game on the ground while UT Martin only averages 137.2 yards.

“I think they are a very good team. You look at them offensively they have a really good young quarterback, Dresser Winn,” said Elder. Winn is a true sophomore for the SkyHawks and played against EKU last season as a freshman. So far this season, Winn has thrown for 1,353 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Skyhawks have thrown the ball more on average. They have thrown for 274 yards on average per game. EKU has thrown for 101 yards in the air per game.

Saturday’s game marks the 29 matchup between UT Martian and the EKU Colonels. EKU leads the series 24-4 all time. The Colonels are 12-2 against the Skyhawks in Martin. Eastern won last season in Richmond by a score of 31-21.

A player to watch out for is UT Martin’s junior wide receiver, Terry Williams. Williams tallied 11 receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown in the Skyhawk’s win over Murray State on Sep. 29. He currently has 41 receptions on the season which ranks fifth nationally.

For the Colonels, a key player to watch for is running back Daryl McCleskey. He has rushed for 417 yards this season and reached the end zone three times.

Turnovers will also be a point of interest for both teams on Saturday. EKU has turned the ball over 12 times this season while UT Martin has turned it over nine times. Coach Elder has emphasized the importance of ball security to the team.

UT Martin is 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play. EKU is coming into the game with a record of 2-3 and 1-1 in the OVC.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Hardy Graham Stadium in Martin, Tennessee on Saturday.
