The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team upset first-place Southeast Missouri on senior day, 2-1 and handed the Redhawks their first loss of the season on Saturday, March 27.

Sophomore Maddy Lemery tied it up in the 28th minute, taking a pass from fellow sophomore Ali Kirk and burying the equalizer. It was her first career goal and Kirk’s second career assist. Senior Katie Shaffer broke through with the game-winner in the 64th minute.

Shaffer and fellow senior Claire Hicks played all 90 minutes on the backline for EKU. Senior goalkeeper Billie Clark made six saves to secure the victory, including consecutive ones in the final three minutes of the game.

EKU improves to 3-4-0 on the season. Junior Baylee Lanter led all players in the game with five shots, two of which were on goal. This was the Colonels’ first win over Southeast Missouri since 2016. EKU stays at home to host Belmont on Tuesday, March 30 at 3:30 p.m.
