The EKU women’s basketball team defeated Kentucky Christian University by a final of 90-35 .

The Colonels have had a rough start to the season as they’ve been on the road and overseas facing ranked opponents like Florida State and West Virginia. The blowout win on Wednesday was EKU’s first win of the season. The Colonels are now 1-7 on the season.

Senior Abby Wright and sophomore Bria Bass led Eastern to the victory. Wright had 22 points and Bass scored 19 points. Bass also controlled the boards for the Colonels. The sophomore from Georgia had 14 rebounds. The Colonels out rebounded Kentucky Christian 50 to 29.

To start the second half of action, Kentucky Christian was shut down on offense by the Colonel defense. The Knights didn’t score a bucket for much of the third quarter until around the 4 minute mark in the quarter.

Eastern had active hands throughout the game and forced Kentucky Christian to turn the ball over 31 times.

Eastern had three players score in double figures in the game.

The Colonels will be back in action Sunday against George Mason University at McBrayer Arena. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
