EKU women's basketball falls to Morehead St.

Senior Abby Wright fights for the ball against Morehead State on Saturday in McBrayer Arena.

The EKU women’s basketball team fell in their season finale to in-state rival Morehead State by a final score of 64-61.

EKU finishes the season with a record of 2-27 and winless in the OVC (0-18).

Seniors Abby Wright, Madison Pierce, Shay Solomon and Joya Smith were recognized before the game during the senior day ceremony.

Wright capped her career as a Colonel by tying her career-best with 24

points, including a pair of threes and 8-14 shooting from the free throw line.

Morehead St. was led by Miranda Crockett with 33 points.

After the game, Director of Athletics Stephen Lochmueller announced that head coach Chrissy Roberts will not be returning to EKU next season. Roberts was selected as Eastern’s eighth head coach on May 29, 2008.

After 11 seasons, she finished with a 122-194 record. Under her guidance, the Colonels finished with a winning record three times and qualified for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament six times.

A national search for Eastern Kentucky’s next women’s basketball head coach will begin immediately, according to Lochmueller.
