The Eastern Kentucky University basketball seasons are right around the corner.
The women’s team will play their first game at McBrayer Arena against Bellarmine University on Nov. 25.
“I’m excited about this season, we have a lot of talented freshmen that will get significant playing time… and we’re excited to compete this season,” women’s head coach Samantha Williams said during the OVC media day.
The men’s team will play at McBrayer Arena against Morehead State University on Dec. 7.
“It’s been an unusual year and we are excited for our players to have a chance to play and compete,” men’s head coach A.W. Hamilton said during the OVC media day.
The men’s team is predicted to finish fourth in the OVC but Hamilton has higher hopes and expectations for his team.
“We don’t want to be the fourth-place team in the OVC, we want to continue moving forward,” Hamilton said. “We have great depth now and we want to play even faster, we have guys who have been in the program for a while now, we’re going through the preseason… it’s nice having guys for two or three years.”
The women’s team is predicted to finish tenth in the OVC this season.
“I see a lot of talent and dedication,” senior guard Bria Bass said.
Due to COVID-19, both teams had to miss out on summer practices but were able to reunite in the gym this fall.
“We try to keep things as normal as possible,” Williams said.
EKU men’s basketball guard Jomaru Brown went through the NBA draft process early in the summer but decided to return to play his junior season.
“Being more efficient this season… and I just want to be the best player I can be,” Brown said. “This is the best team I’ve played with at Eastern Kentucky and this is the best team in the OVC right now.”
As of publication, the men’s first home game will be on Dec. 7 against Morehead State University. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m.
The men's basketball team has not released its non-conference schedule yet.
The women’s first home game will be against Bellarmine University on Nov. 25. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
