The EKU Colonels traveled to the University of Tennessee- Martin on Saturday and came away with a comeback-victory against the Skyhawks by a final score of 35-34.
A kick recovered by Matthew Jackson late in the third quarter allowed the Eastern Kentucky University football team to complete the 13-point comeback.
The rushing game was working for the Colonels. They rushed for 238 yards while UT Martin only gained 105 yards on the ground.
EKU’s running back, Daryl McCleskey finished with 74 yards and two touchdowns while L.J. Scott rumbled for 106 yards of his own, his first 100-yard rushing game of the season. Alphonso Howard threw for 88 yards, had one touchdown pass and one rushing score in the game.
EKU picked up 21 first downs and UT Martin had 16. Both teams played a clean game as EKU only had two penalties and UT Martin had one penalty called on them.
The Colonels improved to 25-4 all-time against Tennessee-Martin.
EKU now has a record of 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
The Colonels will be back in Richmond for Homecoming on Sat. Oct. 20, against Murray State. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Roy Kidd Stadium.
