EKU football home opener moved to Thursday night

EKU football players celebrate a touchdown against Tennessee State last season in Richmond.

Eastern Kentucky University’s football season will kick off at home against Western Carolina University on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.

The original game was set for Saturday, Sept. 5, but was moved due to being scheduled on the same day as the 146th Kentucky Derby.

This will make the third straight season EKU has started its season on a Thursday night.

EKU first went up against Western Carolina in 1988 and leads the all-time series record, 3-2.

EKU will play four more home games against Tennessee-Martin on Oct. 3, Eastern Illinois on Oct. 17, Murray State on Nov. 7, and Tennessee State on Nov. 21.

Fans can receive their tickets now by calling Raymond White at (859) 622-3890 or the EKUSports ticket office at 844-3-GOBIGE.
