EKU President David McFaddin cheers on the incoming freshman class during BigE Welcome.

Hello students, and welcome to Eastern Kentucky University. I am thrilled to have you as a member of our Colonel family. As a graduate of EKU, I can tell you with first-hand knowledge that you are participating in a life-changing and transformative experience. At EKU, we are proud to provide a world-class education to students from many different backgrounds and cultures. The time you spend here will connect you with a network of peers and professionals who will be a positive influence on your life forever.

You will quickly discover that we are laser-focused on student success. We offer high-demand academic programs. Caring faculty who are experts in their field and teach with passion and purpose. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of an exceptional student experience. Additionally, we are excited to host a vibrant campus life with our historic and highly competitive NCAA athletics programs, a variety of structured social gatherings and events throughout the year, and multiple opportunities to pursue your interests outside the classroom. EKU has the bases covered and a comprehensive plan to ensure a diploma and rewarding future are on your horizon. These are just a few ways we dedicate ourselves to a student success model that lifts everyone up.

As part of our commitment to keeping higher education affordable and accessible, we launched the EKU BookSmart program this semester, providing textbooks and course materials to all undergraduate students. Supplying the tools to help you succeed is a direct expression of EKU’s confidence in you. College can be daunting, but we believe in you and your ability to reach your full potential.

I am glad you have chosen EKU as your place to learn. I wish you the best this semester. Study hard, play hard, and be kind to your fellow Colonels. We are on this wonderful journey together, and I hope your goals and aspirations come to fruition as you pursue your education at the School of Opportunity.

Have a great semester.

One Eastern,

David. T. McFaddin
