Case Dining Hall got you down? Had your fill of Chick-fil-A? Is the sight of even one more bagel bound to send you into conniptions? Fret not, for here’s a list of all the best restaurants in Richmond, sorted in no particular order.

Masala Fine Indian Cuisine

1000 Center Dr.

If you’ve got a hankering for spicy foods, Masala’s the place to go. Located right across the street from Kroger, the sign is hard to miss. Vegetarians will be right at home, while meat-lovers need not be afraid. Try the lamb biryani or the vegetable masala. With four levels of spiciness ranging from “Mild” to “Indian Hot,” nobody will be left out. Don’t forget to order a side of naan!

Babylon Gyros

213 W Main St.

A Richmond staple for over 11 years, Babylon Gyros is your stop for quick Mediterranean eats. Located right in the middle of downtown, it is only a few minutes from campus. With huge gyros and amazing seasoned fries, you can’t go wrong. Try the chicken shawarma and some tzatziki sauce!

Apollo Pizza & Beer Emporium

228 South Second St.

Featured in Alton Brown’s Road Eats, Apollo Pizza is mandatory dining for those in Richmond. Sure, they have sandwiches and pasta, but who can say no to the Four Cheeses of the Apocalypse Pizza? Veggies more your style? Order an Agrarian! Or go for a state classic with the Kentucky Hot Browne pizza. Assuming you can get your friends to agree on the toppings, of course…

Nuevo Vallarta

709 Big Hill Ave.

Enchiladas, burritos, tacos, taquitos… chicken and cheese fries? Nuevo Vallarta has them all. Wash it down with a margarita the size of your head and you have got yourself and evening going. Definitely try the fajitas – you can’t go wrong with that level of sizzle.

Straight From Texas Bar-B-Que

306 North St.

Meat lovers, rejoice! With barbecued meats smoked for 18 hours a day and a plethora of homemade sides, Straight From Texas Bar-B-Que is every barbeque fan’s dream. Get yourself some brisket, baked beans and tater salad, then stop next door at Alamo Ice for a cool treat.

Brady’s Sushi and Hibachi

525 Eastern Bypass

A wide variety of sushi rolls, an assortment of bento boxes, and delicious hibachi grilled foods await you at Brady’s, just off the Bypass. You can’t go wrong with classics like shrimp tempura and hibachi chicken, but why not go crazy with their sweet potato Sushi Fries? My personal favorite? The volcano roll.

Thai Smile

525 Leighway Dr. A

Thai tea. Classic Thaifoods abound. Thai tea. With a scale of spices ranging from 1-5 star spice to 10, 15, and even 30 star spiciness (I love spicy foods and won’t venture past 10), Thai Smile has something for everyone. Like their Thai tea. Try the pad thai, and go for however spicy you feel like. And get yourself a cup of Thai tea. For real. Have I mentioned their Thai tea?

Madison Garden

152 N. Madison Ave.

They have burgers, pizza, pasta, and salad. What more could you want? How about the MG Wings made with their homemade dry rub seasoning? Madison Garden is the stop for all your game day foods.

Jackson’s Restaurant

203 South Third St.

Specializing in homestyle comfort food, Jackson’s menu covers all the authentic southern basics. From chicken and dumplings and meatloaf to fried catfish and baked ham, their rotating daily specials appeal to everyone. Stop in for breakfast as well, or if you’re feeling bold enough, try The Big Hoss Challenge.

Mi Pueblo

465 Eastern Bypass

Mi Pueblo isn’t just a restaurant – it’s also a full service Mexican market. Get all your shopping done, then head to the back of the store for the best authentic street tacos you’ll find anywhere. Located in a little nook off the bypass, Mi Pueblo is one of Richmond’s hidden treasures, and a worthwhile trip every time.

Late Night Options

Richmond isn’t exactly known for its bustling nightlife, so you’re basically at the whim of the chain spots after 10 p.m. McDonald’s and Wendy’s are your go-to’s, but if you’re craving a milkshake, then Cook Out is the place to be. Other than that, Insomnia Cookies can handle your sweet tooth in the middle of that cram session – they even deliver!
