Telford residents evacuated to Keene Hall on Friday night due to needed repairs

Telford Hall was evacuated on Friday night due to critical repairs that were needed to be made. Residents were moved to Keene Hall until at least Tuesday for their safety.

Eastern Kentucky University housing informed residents of Telford Hall to evacuate and move to Keene Hall until at least Tuesday, March 9 due to needed “critical repairs.”

Residents were informed in an email from EKU at 6:19 p.m. on Friday that they needed to evacuate by midnight. Students could be seen taking their stuff to cars from Telford late Friday.

Shuttles also assisted residents in the move on Friday night. Housing asked residents to take any items with them that they might need for the next few days.

“These repairs could result in periods of service interruptions that would not allow residents to remain in the building due to safety requirements,” the email stated.

Students who were off-campus for the weekend before they received the email will be allowed back into the building on Sunday afternoon to retrieve what they need until they are allowed to return.

The email stated, “We anticipate repairs will be completed to allow you to return to Telford Hall by Tuesday, March 9.”

Keene Hall was closed in February for renovations.

This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
