Kentucky State Police arrested a Madison County Detention Center contract worker Wednesday morning on a warrant that charges her with third-degree attempted sodomy and third-degree rape.

According to the warrant, between Feb. 1 and April 15, Erika Jackson, 42, Hallie Irvine Street, Richmond, was working as a kitchen supervisor at the jail through Kellwell Food Management and engaged in sexual contact with an inmate.

Jackson admitted to troopers that she had oral sex with an inmate and had sex with the inmate, the warrant states. The inmate also admitted to engaging in sexual activities with Jackson.

Kellwell Food Management has provided food service operations for the Madison County Detention Center since June 1, 2015, the release notes.

Jackson was booked into the MCDC and then was transferred to another detention center, according to a news release from Jailer Steve Tussey, who was notified about the incident earlier this week.

“This incident, along with other recent incidents involving inappropriate contact between staff/contract employees and inmates at the Madison County Detention Center reflects a culture that will not be tolerated under my administration,” Tussey said in a statement. “I commend the members of my staff whose great work led to information resulting in the successful completion of this investigation as well as their participation in other internal investigatory operations leading to the removal of bad actors from our facility. This commitment to following procedures outlined by the Department of Corrections and our unwavering pledge to be transparent with both law enforcement and the citizens of Madison County is one of many changes that will produce a more efficient and safer run facility.”

Tussey said his staff is cooperating fully with the investigation.

This is second incident to occur at the jail in recent weeks.

On March 26, Kentucky State Police arrested former Madison County Detention Center deputy jailer Vanessa Tester on a charge of third-degree sodomy. A complaint was submitted to Tussey regarding an incident that allegedly occurred on jail property between Tester, 44, Madison Hills Boulevard, Richmond, and an inmate, according to Madison County government and KSP news releases.
