The Alpha Omicron Pi sorority raised over $6,000 for the Arthritis Foundation at the 26th annual AOII Lip Sync event on Friday, Nov. 9th.
Each year, fraternity and sorority members perform song and dance routines throughout the event to claim first place. Fraternities compete against other fraternities, while sororities compete against sororities.
The organizations practice their routines for weeks, perfecting their dance moves and lip sync skills. Catesby Spears, senior and member of Chi Omega, participated this year for her sorority.
“No matter how much time you spend on your routine, everyone enjoys and appreciates it,” Spears said.
Deverin Muff, coordinator of student organizations and facilities, served as a judge this year for the event. Muff said lip sync is a “highlight of what happens when Greek Life comes together and works for a common goal.”
Lip Sync concluded the night after 14 acts. Pi Kappa Alpha took first place among fraternities with their routine “Dancing Through the Decades.” Coming in second place was Sigma Pi with “Sigma Pi’s Finest Guys.” Third place went to Lambda Chi Alpha with “Welcome to the Jungle.”
For sororities, first place went to Kappa Delta with “Mother Goose” and second place to Chi Omega with “And You’re Watching Disney Channel.”
