Eastern Kentucky University’s Alpha Psi Omega chapter is hosting a tribute performance in honor of the theatre department’s last semester on campus.

The Celebration of EKU Theatre is a public event and will take place at 7 p.m. at the Gifford Theatre on April 13.

The cabaret-style performance will feature different scenes, monologues and songs from shows that have been performed by EKU Theatre over the years. The event will be held in place of APO’s monthly open mic cabaret.

“This show will be extra special,” senior theatre major Alyssa Burrows said. “It is all about celebrating the department that has given decades of art to EKU’s campus and all the people that have worked so hard over the years to make that happen.”

The EKU Board of Regents announced the suspension of the theatre department last year as a result of $25 million in university budget cuts.

Students who were already enrolled in the affected programs were given the 2018-19 academic year to complete their remaining major courses.
