Eastern Kentucky University Housing and Residence Life announced on July 2 that they have made changes to meet national, state and local recommendations, and have modified the housing capacity of the residential facilities for the 2020-21 school year.

Students with suite-style or apartment-style housing assignments which include the Grand Campus apartments, Martin Hall, North Hall, South Hall, Telford Hall and the suites of Burnam Hall will maintain their current housing assignments.

Students with traditional style housing assignments like Burnam Hall, Clay Hall, Keene Hall, Palmer Hall and Walters Hall and students who do not have a housing assignment will be required to choose a new housing assignment from Burnam Hall, Clay Hall, Keene Hall, McGregor Hall, Palmer Hall and Sullivan Hall.

“These assignments will be single occupancy (no roommates) at the regular price of a double room. There will be no additional cost in making the assignment single occupancy,” according to the email.

According to the email, if a student’s room assignment is affected, they will be notified via email and have the opportunity to choose a room assignment based on their class rank and the date of their housing application.

Residence hall move-in will begin Aug. 8 and continue until Aug. 16.

According to the email, first-year students are encouraged to move in prior to Aug. 13 in order to be present for Big E Welcome activities. Instructions to sign up online for a move in time will be sent after the room selection process is completed.

“We understand the frustration this may cause, but we believe this is the most efficient and responsible method to maintain safe and sustainable living conditions. After students have selected a new room assignment, there will be an additional opportunity to adjust room assignments before move-in occurs. One of our goals is to preserve the on-campus experience while respecting current health and safety guidelines,” according to the email.

If students have any questions, they can contact housing at housing@eku.edu or 859-622-1515.
