President Michael Benson announced a restructuring of administrative departments and members of the President’s Council in a message to the campus community Wednesday.

“While analyzing our operations, success measures and a variety of data points, a need emerged to evaluate our organizational structure,” Benson wrote in the email to the faculty.

Athletics will no longer be considered an individual department and will fall under student affairs and campus life.

As part of the restructuring of athletics under student affairs, Steve Lochmueller, director of athletics will report to Skip Daugherty, the newly named vice president for student affairs and campus life. Lochmueller will not sit on the president’s council; Daugherty will take that place on the council.

“These adjustments to our operational structure will improve efficiencies across all University areas and underscore our focus on student recruitment, retention and graduation, and will take effect immediately,” said Benson in his email to faculty.

The changes are expected to be announced to the Board of Regents during the Feb. 22 meeting.

The Progress is awaiting interviews with members of the administration. The story will be updated as that information becomes available.
