Volleyball continues winning way

Eastern earned a win against Jacksonville State University on Friday, Nov. 1. Despite losing set one of the match, the Colonels grabbed the win with scores of 16-25, 27-25, 25-16 and 25-20.

Jacksonville (11-16, 4-8 OVC) led set two until a service error tied the set 25-25. Another Jacksonville error put the set-point in Eastern’s favor and a kill for the Colonels placed the set in Eastern’s hands with a 27-25 victory.

In the third set Eastern led by eight points after earning the first six points of the set. An Eastern kill and Jacksonville error moved the score to 20-11. With one last kill, Eastern finished the set ahead of Jacksonville 25-16.

Powerful offense and group work gives volleyball win over UT Martin

Eastern’s five-win streak was stopped after the loss to Southeast Missouri State University.

The match was close with scores of 15-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-20 and 9-15 on Oct. 24.

“We really had an opportunity to win the match on Thursday night,” head coach Lori Duncan said. “It was a very disappointing loss. You know, we felt like we did a lot of things well and positioned ourselves to win. Things didn’t go our way.”

Volleyball team goes on a roll

In a three-match domination, Eastern defeated Tennessee Tech University, Jacksonville State University and Northern Kentucky University at McBrayer Arena.
The Colonels gained its first victory after defeating Tennessee Tech (5-13, 1-7 OVC) 3-0 Oct. 18. Eastern won by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-14.

Senior Ashley Edmond led Eastern with a match-best 12 kills with junior Alexis Plagens and freshman Johanna Boyer each adding eight for Eastern. Junior Dena Ott recorded 12 digs for the Colonels and Plagens followed with 9. Junior Abbey Cvelbar led the Colonels with 34 assists.

Volleyball defeats Wright State, Eastern Illinois, falls to Southern Illinois

Eastern’s volleyball team (9-12, 2-4 OVC) lost to conference foe Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and triumphed over Eastern Illinois University as well as non-conference opponent Wright State University.

The Colonels suffered a 3-2 loss at home against Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville (7-12, 3-3 OVC) in a five set match on Oct. 11.

Volleyball falls 0-3 to conference foe Austin Peay

The Colonel’s volleyball team (7-11, 1-3 OVC) traveled to Austin Peay State University on Saturday, Oct. 5 for another conference game and fell 0-3 to the Governors.

Austin Peay (6-13, 3-1 OVC) outblocked Eastern, 7-3. Senior Ashley Edmonds led Eastern with nine kills while junior Alexis Plagens followed with eight. Sophomore Mallori Moffat led the Colonels with 11 digs and junior Dena Ott followed with nine.

The Colonels lost by scores of 22-25, 17-25 and 21-25.
