Women’s golf concludes fall season with third place finish at Winthrop Intercollegiate

Eastern’s women’s golf team finished up its fall season in third place after a two-day tournament at the Winthrop Intercollegiate Nov. 2-3. The Colonels shot 637 for the tournament, following Winthrop University in second place with a total of 627 and Boise State University at first place with a total of 625.

The event took place at the par-72, 6,044-yard Rock Hill Country Club.

On Nov. 2, Eastern shot a 316 tying with Winthrop University for second place for the day. The Colonels fell behind on the second day of the tournament shooting 321.

Riggs ties record for Eastern’s lowest golf round

Junior Taylor Riggs was one of the highlights for Eastern’s men’s golf team after tying a school record by shooting a 64 (-8) at the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate on Oct. 14 and 15. The Colonels tied for second overall in their best performance of the season.

Riggs finished second overall with a 54-hole total of 206 (-10). He started the event by going two-under par (70) in the first round. Riggs’s momentum carried into the second round, where he shot 64 (-8). He made par in the third round with a score of 72.

Women’s golf finishes third in F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate tournament

Eastern’s women’s golf team finished in third place after a two-day tournament at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate Oct. 15-16. The Colonels shot 609 for the tournament, following Jacksonville State University in first place with a total of 607 and Murray State University at second place with a total of 608.

The event took place at the par-72, 5,960-yard Clarksville Country Club.

Women’s golf nets third, thanks to Levin’s six birdies

Eastern’s women’s golf team tied for third place at The 2013 Preview in Fishers, Ind. on Oct. 7 and 8. The Colonels shot 632 (+56) at the 16-team event.

The 72-par, 6,127 yard event was played at the Hawthorns Golf Club. The teams played 18 holes total in two rounds.

Head coach Mike Whitson said the team needs to work on its short game.

“We’re still throwing away more shots around the green that we don’t need to,” Whitson said.

Men’s golf finishes in middle of the pack at 16-team invitational

Eastern’s men’s golf team came away with a three-round score of 901 (+37) in a two-day tournament on Monday at the Bearcat Invitational. The Colonels placed tenth out of 16 teams.

Austin Peay State University came out on top, shooting a score of 862 (-2). Marshall University came in second with 867 (+3) and Cincinnati finished third, shooting 871 (+7).

“The course was pretty tough,” senior Garrett Hinton said. “We didn’t play too well as a team, but there is always tomorrow. It’s hard to get warmed up when you’re freezing.”

Junior Sundlof hits hole-in-one, Colonels place third at Murray State Invitational

Eastern’s men’s golf came out with a three-round score of 860 (+8) in a three-day tournament Tuesday at the Murray State Invitational. The Colonels placed third out of 14 teams.

Junior Patric Sundlof (18) had the highlight of the match after hitting a hole-in-one in the first round on a par-3 hole. This is Sundlof’s first season as a Colonel.
