Theatre Department shines in musical on man-eating plant

Crowds swarmed into Gifford Theatre from Feb. 24 to 28, as the EKU Theatre Department performed their production of Little Shop of Horrors, a comedy-horror musical originally written by Howard Ashman. I, personally, was pleasantly surprised with the Eastern’s take on the classic musical, directed by Professor Alana Ghent. The musical features a clumsy young man named Seymour, played by Sean Sullivan, who was orphaned as a child and now lives in the inner-city. Seymour works in the destitute flower shop of Mr. Mushnik, played by Nicholas Hemlic, and loves his job. Seymour pines after his coworker, Audrey, played...

The People vs O.J. Simpson hits FX

One of, if not the most, captivating trials in American history is now being portrayed on FX at 9 p.m. every Tuesday. The People vs. O.J. Simpson is a new drama by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski and is being produced by one of FX’s most prized creators in Ryan Murphy, who is most notably known as the creator of American Horror Story. This series is part of FX’s new anthology series called American Crime Story, which will portray a different crime from American history every season. The show has aired two episodes so far and I think it is amazing. The all-star cast includes John Travolta, whose performance as famous attorney Robert Shapiro has critics turned off because as Daniel Fienberg of The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “Travolta has built a mesmerizingly bad performance from the eyebrows down.” I personally think he’s been great. Travolta goes all out, and somewhat over the top in portraying Shapiro. When Travolta goes all in like he does in Pulp Fiction or Grease, I love it, but I know some don’t. Sarah Paulson from plays prosecuter Marcia Clark, David Schwimmer plays Robert Kardashian and Cuba Gooding Jr. plays the former NFL star, O.J. Simpson. Quite frankly, there is not a bad performance in the cast. Even Courtney B. Vance, a lesser known actor compared to the main cast, gives an amazing take on...

BANNERS, a.k.a. Mike Nelson, may very well be the perfect artist to add to your playlist for your morning/evening commute or your cool down at the gym. His musical style is a blend of electronic, pop and alternative rock. Often considered a mix between Imagine Dragons and Coldplay, his songs are mellow and perfect to listen to after a busy day. Singer/Songwriter Mike Nelson was born and raised in Liverpool, England. After singing in cathedrals and halls across Europe, he decided to work on his own material. He originally started out under the name RAINES, but later changed it...
