WHO WE ARE The Eastern Progress is an award-winning campus newspaper published every Thursday. The Progress circulates 10,000 copies each week to more than 16,000 students and the staff and faculty at Eastern Kentucky University. Founded in 1922, the paper is produced by a student staff and has a proud tradition as EKU's news source. The Progress is a member of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, Associated Collegiate Press and Kentucky Intercollegiate Press Association. It was the only weekly in the country to win Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Gold Crown award in 2001. The Progress recently won another Pacemaker award, considered the Pulitzer Prize of college journalism, from the Associated Collegiate Press.
CIRCULATION The Progress is distributed as a free-circulation paper to more than 60 distribution places on the Campus Beautiful. It can also be found in high-traffic areas of Richmond such as the court house and University Book and Supply. Copies are also delivered to the university’s regional centers in Corbin, Danville and Manchester. The press run is 10,000.
IMPORTANT SCHEDULING INFORMATION Advertising space must be reserved by NOON MONDAY prior to the Thursday publication date. Ad copy, artwork, photos, and other materials for your ad should be given to your sales representative by 3 p.m. Monday. Ask your sales representative about cancellation fees and other policies.
DISPLAY ADS are measured by their width (measured in columns) and their depth (measured in inches). Each page is 6 columns wide and 21.5 inches tall. The minimum size display ad is one column wide by 3 inches tall or what we call a 1 x 3. The price of 3 column-inches is calculated by multiplying the number of column inches x $5.50. The cost of a 1 x 3 would be $16.50 at our open rate.
SUBMISSION Ads may be e-mailed or submitted on Macintosh-formatted CDs or zip disks. Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign are acceptable programs. Please include the fonts used or save as flattened .eps files or Adobe Acrobat .pdf files. The Progress also accepts .jpg and .tif files. Our designers have access to clip art and can scan logos or other submitted art. Graphics and photos should be saved at 300 ppi. Electronic submissions are best. Submitting artwork on paper will significantly decrease ad quality when it is scanned and printed in the newspaper. Please consult your sales representative.
DESIGN The Progress offers free graphic and creative design. Progress designers have access to clip art, but photography by Progress photographers is limited. Ask your sales representative about their availability.

CLASSIFIEDS Classified ads must be prepaid. A word is defined as that which begins and/or ends with a space. A number, telephone number and any abbreviation are each counted as one word. Display classified ads may be placed in our classified section with special type formatting and borders. The display classified rate is $6.00 per column inch. SPECIAL SECTIONS The Progress is pleased to offer a number of special advertising sections throughout the year. These special sections often provide an opportunity for deeply discounted color ads. Please ask your sales representative for details.
INSERTS Reservations must be made 14 days in advance and a copy sent to the ad manager for approval. Inserts must be delivered to the printer a week before insertion. Clients may run the full 10,000 run or half. Maximum size is 11.25" X 13.5", the minimum is 5" X 7". The printer's address is:
