Eastern Kentucky has not gotten off on the right foot of the 2017 soccer season as of yet. The Colonels dropped their season opener to Northern Kentucky by a score of 2-1, with the Colonels allowing a goal in the 61st minute to give the Norses the lead, securing their win.
Their most recent game saw them take on UT-Chattanooga in a 0-0 draw, the first of the season for Eastern. While goalkeeper Anna Hall earned her first shutout of the season, the Colonels’ offense could not muster up anything, as they took only 11 shots with only four of those being shots on goal.
The Colonels are coming off of a fantastic season last year andare still working their way into playing shape. Goalie Anna Hall has been her usual self, saving seven goals while only allowing two of them. The offense has not been able to return the favor thus far.
With 23 shots on goal, Eastern has managed only one goal. The current pace they are on has them scoring just two goals in the next 46 attempts. The lone goal of the season has come by Forward Emmi Carroll in the Northern Kentucky game.
With three straight road games looming against Kentucky, IUPUI, and Xavier, the Colonels would like to get into the win column before conference play starts.
Eastern has seven home games this season after having nine last year and only losing one of them. They will need to steal road games in order to build on the momentum from last season. The next game is at the University of Kentucky on August 24th at 7:30 PM.
