Dear EKU Student Government Association,
As many of you know, I was recently elected to the position of SGA President. First, I want to thank you for your service to the University by facilitating this year’s election. You did a wonderful job in making sure that students were aware of the election, the candidates, and how they could cast their votes. I look forward to working with you all in the next year!
Although I had to resign from my position of Inspector General to start my campaign, I continued to attend SGA functions to stay informed about the Association and support Association members. One of these functions was the most recent Joint Branch Meeting. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this meeting and as the meeting came to an end, I was encouraged by members of the Executive Cabinet to take photos with the SGA backdrop before I left. As such, I took photos with future VP Ryan Wiggins and other members of the Student Senate.
In attempts to promote awareness of the Association and its events, I asked my campaign manager to post some of these photos on our campaign’s social media pages, unknowingly breaking a rule of the SGA Constitution that prohibits a candidate from using SGA property in campaign material. My interpretation of the rule was that SGA property could not be used to make physical campaign material (i.e. printing flyers with SGA printers). Ryan and I did not think that taking a picture with this wall and posting it to promote SGA was a violation, but we now understand that using property like the SGA backdrop in any kind of campaign material is a violation.
Therefore, Ryan and I apologize to the Association for this infraction. We would not have taken this action if we had known that it infringed upon the Election Bylaws. We hope that this misinterpretation does not hinder our ability to work with each and every one of you in the upcoming year.
