Eastern’s volleyball team finished the regular season on a high note with a five-set win against Austin Peay State University on Nov. 15. The match honored four Colonel seniors: Alexis Plagens, Dena Ott, Abbey Cvelbar and Julia Mindlina.

The Colonels won with set scores of 25-20, 25-27, 26-28, 25-20 and 15-6.

Austin Peay’s Lady Govs (14-8, 8-8 OVC) managed to retaliate after Eastern grabbed set one by winning the second set and tying the match at one all.

The Colonels looked to have the third set in the bag with a seven-point lead until the Lady Govs made a 9- run for a 24-23 lead. The set tied three times but Austin Peay picked up the win after back-to-back errors by Eastern.

The match was pushed to five sets when the Colonels won the fourth set.

Eastern gained momentum after eight straight points early in the set. The Colonels then earned match point at 14-6 and an Austin Peay error gave Eastern the final set and match.

Plagens led the Colonels with 21 kills while junior Rachel Vick added 15 and junior Ally Peters had 12 of her own.

Ott had 23 digs to lead the team. Ott currently has the Eastern title for most career digs. Cvelbar also put up 15 digs and Plagens added 11.

Cvelbar led all players with a match-best of 53 assists.

Eastern’s next challenge is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 20 when the team opens play for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. The Colonels enter the tournament at No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 Eastern Illinois University.

The winner of the match will move on to semifinals and play the winner of the No. 2 Belmont v. No. 7 Austin Peay match.

The Colonels finish the regular season with a 21-13, 11-5 OVC record.
