For the second time this fall season, Eastern’s women’s golf was shortened due to rainy conditions. The Charles Braun Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Evansville, concluded the Colonels’ fall season schedule.

After rain shortened the 36-hole event in half, the Colonels combined 18-hole scores for a fourth place finish (318). The finish was only eight shy of Indiana State University, which captured the team title. Northern Kentucky University and Butler University rounded out the top three with scores of 313 and 315 respectively.

The par-72, 6,032-yard Oak Meadow Country Club in Evansville hosted the 15-team event.

Junior Becky Sharpe tied for fifth and led Eastern with a score of 76. Sophomore Sophie Levin tied for 10th with a round of 78.

“I have not played par golf this season, but I have played pretty well and it was important to end the season on a good note,” Sharpe said.

Head coach Mike Whitson also said the team finished the season strong, despite the inclement weather.

“We ended the season on a positive note,” Whitson said. “We had to keep the ball below the hole this week, so we had to control the ball well.”

The Colonels return to competitive action Feb. 23 and 24 at the Islander Classic hosted by Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
