The EKU Geeks are now able to rent out video games and consoles to students for free as a result of a resolution passed at Student Senate on Tuesday.

The resolution allows the EKU Geeks to obtain two Nintendo Wii consoles, three Xbox 360 consoles and two Playstation 3 consoles.

The consoles have been the responsibility of the Student Government Association since they were purchased several years ago using Information Technology grant funding, said Rachel Keys, IT committee chair.

Students will need to go to either the Tech Commons or Library locations of EKU Geeks to check one out, Keys said.

Available games for the consoles range from Mario Kart to Madden NFL 13 to Uncharted 3 and more.

The Safety Walk will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 starting at Powell Corner. The walk was rescheduled because of inclement weather.

Keys said she was finishing creating the IT grant packets. Approximately $95,000 is available for funding to departments and student organizations. She said she plans on packets being ready to distribute next week.

Katie Scott, chair of the Dining Services committee, said Aramark officials told her that between 25 and 30 percent of the produce sold in Upstairs Powell was Kentucky Proud, meaning it came from Kentucky farms and orchards. She also mentioned that Aramark creates between five and 15 special needs meals per day for students with food allergies or other needs. To request a special needs meal, students need to contact dining to obtain the executive chef’s phone number so they can text a meal request in advance.
