Every year EKU Athletics invites Eastern fans to take a sneak peek at the men and women’s basketball teams during Hoopfest.

Hoopfest gives fans the opportunity to see both Eastern’s men’s and women’s basketball teams before the 2014 season begins. The event will include a three-point shooting contest as well as a dunk contest. Performances by Eastern’s pep band, dance team and cheer squad will also take place.

Hoopfest 2014, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Alumni Coliseum.

The men’s team, the defending OVC Conference Champions, have two returning starters, including Corey Walden, the OVC defensive player of the year. Eight other players also return this season. The women’s team returns with three starters from last year’s team, which won 17 games and pushed its way to the semifinals in the OVC Tournament, for the first time since 2005.

Where Hoopfest 2013 put most of its emphasis on Eastern’s basketball teams, this year’s Hoopfest will reach out to get the crowd more involved.

Buffalo Wild Wings will provide 500 free T-shirts, future basketball ticket vouchers and food to fans, while supplies last. Buffalo Wild Wings will also sponsor the “Blazin’ Challenge” where one student will receive a $100 gift card for eating as many hot wings as they can in 60 seconds. Another lucky student will have the opportunity to compete in a contest for a $300 gift card, courtesy of Barnes and Noble at the EKU Bookstore.

“We are trying to make this year’s event more exciting for the students and fans,” said Rachel Park, director of Athletic Marketing.

Players from both teams will sign autographs to conclude the event. The event is free and open to the public. For more information about Hoopfest 2014, contact Park at rachel.park@eku.edu.
