The Lady Colonels earned another victory Feb. 18 when they took on Tennessee Tech at home. This win gave Eastern its first victory in four years against Tennessee Tech, and this victory also put the Lady Colonels (10-3) first in the OVC.

“This win was huge,” said head coach Chrissy Roberts. “We knew it coming in, but I didn’t talk about it much.”

Junior Marie Carpenter led the game in scoring with 18 points, followed by Coles with 15. Senior Alex Jones ended with nine, senior LaRa’e Allen with five, and senior Raechele Gray had four points.

A strong bench backed up the starting line-up for the Lady Colonels. Senior Jalisa Bryant subbed in, easily making two 3-pointers and ending the game with six points. Freshman Shelly Harper added four points.

Jones ended with her game best of 15 rebounds, which put her four rebounds just short of moving into second place on Eastern’s career rebound list.

Allen put up a 3-pointer with less than two minutes to go giving Eastern its six-point lead at the finish of the game 61-55.

Despite another slow start, the Lady Colonels picked up their ball movement and carried out a strong game on both ends of the court with continued support from the bench.

Senior Brittany Coles said having fresh players from the bench helped the Lady Colonels with motivation.

“They’re a big spark for us, and they got the momentum going,” Coles said.

Senior Day will take place before the next game. The Lady Colonels will play directly afterwards starting at 4 p.m. Feb. 28 to take on Austin Peay at McBrayer Arena.
