The second game at the KSU Classic saw a turn in the Colonels’ fortunes. Eastern defeated the Liberty University Flames 4-0. Sophomore Leanna Pittsenbarger was the star for this game after she pitched all seven innings.

The top of the sixth inning was the first sight of any scoring. The Colonels started the inning with a single and a walk putting two Colonels on base. With two runners on base and two outs in the inning, Redshirt freshman Haley Schenasi hit a home run. Eastern was now up 3-0.

The Flames (1-3) couldn’t break the lead the rest of the game. Sophomore Lauren Mitchell widened the gap in the top of the seventh inning with an RBI single. Eastern finished the game with three straight outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Pittsenbarger was the highlight player of the game. She threw a career-high 12 strikeouts and only gave up three hits to earn the win.

The Colonels continued the KSU Classic on the next day, Feb. 17, facing Ball State and Mercer University.
