An 18-year-old female student reported she was raped in a residence hall Saturday Aug. 25.
The reported rape in Dupree Hall is still under investigation.
“We had a student who came to EKU Police and made this report,” said Marc Whitt, university spokesperson. “They followed up on that and questioned her and others about it.”
EKU Police responded to Pattie A. Clay Hospital in reference to the sexual assault at approximately 7:36 p.m.
According to the crime report, the student said she was drinking with friends in Dupree Hall around midnight. Around 3:30 a.m., two of her friends left the room. This is when the reported assault occurred.
After the reported suspect left the room to use the restroom, the victim called her friend, who told her to leave and meet her in the hallway.
After receiving her statement, police took the woman to Saint Joseph Health Hospital for a sexual assault evidence collection kit to be performed.
Once she was released from the hospital, she took officers to the room where she stored her clothes from the assault.
The offender will be charged with first-degree rape, a Class B felony, which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
“It’s still an open investigation,” said Mark Welker, executive director of Public Safety.
No arrests have been made at this time. If you have any information about the incident, contact EKU Police at 859-622-1111.
