Eastern’s men finished ahead of eight OVC contenders Tuesday, capturing first in the tournament. At the start of the second day, the men were tied for second, one stroke behind the leader. The Colonels eventually shot themselves into first place, scoring a-5 in the final round as a team.

Three Colonel golfers finished in the top ten. Eastern’s team consisted of three freshman and two sophomores.

Eastern’s women finished seventh in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, scoring 653, 33 strokes behind the leader.

After the first day Eastern moved up to finish three spots better, scoring a 333 in the first round and a 320 in the second round.

A big reason for the place upgrade was sophomore Linda Hogberg, who shot an 89 in the first round but improved to a 77 in the second round.

Lisanne Schmidt placed in the top ten for the Colonels, tying for seventh.

The women split the OVC competition on Tuesday. Finishing behind in-conference rivals: Tennesse Tech, Murray State and Morehead State, who took first with a score of 620.

They also beat out three OVC opponents in: Austin Peay team’s (two teams participated from the university), Eastern Illinois, and Tennessee State.

The next time Eastern’s men and women’s golf will open play will be in November, when golf’s schedule will open its fall portion.
