There’s no denying the popularity of downtown Richmond on a Thursday night. But some Eastern students end up going elsewhere to do fun things-like renting tacky shoes and knocking down pins at Galaxy Bowling, the winner for best alternative entertainment in Richmond.”It’s kind of a break from studying,” said Ashley Shoopman, a junior psychology major from Louisville. “And it’s one of the better places to come because you can bring all of your friends. Mine are competitive and it’s hilarious.”

Kris Toles, an undeclared freshman from Frankfort, agreed. “It’s a good place to come and hang out. It’s also great because I can come and have a few drinks with my of-age friends,” he said.

Courtney Worley, the manager of Galaxy Bowling, said she was excited about being part of the Best of Richmond. “We love having students come out from Eastern,” she said.

Looking for something to do that won’t strain your wallet? Galaxy offers great deals all week, but caters to Eastern students on Thursday nights. For nine bucks, you get shoes and all the games you can bowl between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.

Think you’ll miss the bar? Think again. Champions Sports Bar & Grill is located in the same building as Galaxy-and just one door away. They also offer specials on Thursdays, along with a live DJ. And if you happen to stay in Richmond on the weekends, you can catch live band performances.

You also have to think about a meal, right? No worries. A concession stand sits behind the lanes, serving items like fountain drinks, nachos and pizza that you can eat while you bowl.
