The rain washed away hopes of playing a final round at the Adidas Hoosier International golf tournament, but it could not dampen a victorious weekend for Eastern’s men’s golf team.The Colonels finished the second round of play topping the leader boards and, thanks to inclement weather, was never contested for first.

Eastern shot a 278 in the first round and were 6-over-par to finish the round tied for seventh.

After impressive play in the second round, the Colonels were in first place, with Jessie Massie sitting atop the leader board in individual play.

Mother Nature made things easier for Eastern, by unleashing enough rain for the third round to be unplayable, freezing the standings as they were,

Which meant Eastern finished the day as the champions.

It was Eastern’s fourth first-place finish of the 2007-08 season.

Jessie Massie finished in first place in individual play and Trey Bowling, the OVC Player of the Week the previous two weeks, finished tied for ninth.

The invitational was played at the par-71, IU Bloomington Golf course.

Eastern’s next test will be at the Marshall Intercollegiate, in Huntington, W. Va., on Friday.

The Colonels women’s golf team finished 10th in the Saluki Invitational, hosted by Southern Illinois University.

Eastern posted a four-shot improvement from the first round to the second.

Senior MelissaRosloniec finished the tournament tied for eleventh place in individual play.

Southern Illinois University, the host team, won the event.

The Saluki Invitational was held at the par-70, Crab Orchard Golf Club course in Carterville, Ill.

The Colonels will be back in action on Friday at the EKU Spring Invitational in Richmond.
