It may already be November, but the women’s golf team is just now concluding its fall schedule.
The sixth and final tournament of the fall was the UAB Fall Beach Blast Monday and Tuesday in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The opening round left the Colonels sitting just outside the top 10 at 11th place. Freshman Gabrielle Andersson had the best day with a 6-over-par 78. Leslie Booth shot a 79, Kellie Warner an 83, Melissa Rosloniec an 84 and Jena Spenske an 85.
Day two brought better results from the team. The Colonels were able to shave off six strokes to get them a 10th-place finish. It was their fourth top-10 finish of the fall.
Rosloniec had the best round with a 78, a six-stroke improvement from round one. Andersson and Booth both carded a 79. Warner improved her first-round score by a stroke and carded an 82. Spenske shot an 88.
Andersson’s 157 earned her a 26th-place tie; Booth tied for 31st. Rosloniec tied for 38th.
The event was played at The Peninsula, a par-72, 5,909-yard course. It featured 14 teams from all over the south. East Carolina finished first with a 13-over-par 589. Texas San Antonio finished second at 34-over and ULM finished at 36-over.
Fellow OVC schools Samford and Jacksonville State also finished in the top 10 at fourth and seventh.
The women will have a two-month respite before hitting the links again in mid-February.
