The Colonels played their final OVC match of the season Sunday tying the Austin Peay Lady Govs, 1-1. Defense kept Eastern and Austin Peay from scoring in the first half and made for an exciting second.

In the 57th minute, Peay broke the tie as it drew Eastern goalie Stephanie Lynch out of the box and snuck a shot past her.

Eastern responded less than 10 minutes later when Alex Hartwick worked her way around a defender and tied the game up 1-1.

In the first overtime, Peay took two shots. One was blocked and one hit the goal post, but neither team could score.

The second overtime brought a barrage of shots by the Colonels, but they could not score, and took their third tie of the season.

The Colonels outshot the Lady Govs 22-17, with junior Kayla Swearingen leading with five shots.

Eastern got its third win of the season Friday, 2-0, when they faced off against Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn.

In the 17th minute, junior Laura Caldon lined up a shot from 16 yards out and put it past the goalie in the right corner.

Alex Roach tacked on an insurance goal in the 72nd minute on a penalty kick.

That would be all the Colonels needed as they proceeded to play good defense and shut out the Golden Eagles.

Lynch had four saves and Caldon led all Colonels with three goal-shot attempts. Both teams had 12 shots each.

This was Eastern’s second conference win.

Eastern’s (3-11-3, 2-6-1 OVC) final match was Wednesday, Oct. 31 against Evansville at the Eastern Soccer Complex.

The Colonels did not qualify for the 2007 OVC Tournament, but will return to action next fall.
