Eastern ended its eight-game losing streak Sunday notching a 3-1 win at home against Jacksonville State. The Colonels (2-10-2, OVC 1-5-0) jumped out to an early lead six minutes in as Jessica Goshert scored her first goal of the season after Ashley Green crossed a corner kick to Goshert who headed the ball past the JSU goalie.

Less than two minutes later, junior Kayla Swearingen scored her first goal of the season as she nailed a shot from 14 yards out. Carly Muller had the assist.

Swearingen scored a goal, her second of the game and season just a few minutes later as Green fed the ball to her from the corner and she headed it in just past the goalie to make the lead 3-0.

“We played a complete game,” said Eastern Head Coach Lindsay Basalyga. “Obviously, we set the tone in the first 10 minutes.”

After scoring three times in the first eleven minutes, the Colonels were held scoreless the rest of the match.

Jacksonville finally got on the board in the second half scoring from eight yards out. Other than that blemish, goalie Stephanie Lynch recorded seven saves.

“There were some rough spots in the second half,” Basalyga said. “But we did what we needed to do.”

Eastern also celebrated its senior day Sunday. Seniors Jessica Doyle and Jan Herdrich were honored.

Eastern plays Morehead State on the road Saturday.
