Student: Theft of bumper sticker act of vandalismThis is an open letter to the person who had their Bush-Cheney sticker torn off their car on campus.

I first want to say that the author of that letter to the editor was a victim of vandalism, and he has every right to be angry over that malicious act.

I do, however, take offense at the accusation that the vandal was a Kerry supporter. Using a crime as an excuse to bash those who do not agree with your own point of view, or who support another candidate, is as petty and shallow as those who committed the act.

As former president and current member of the EKU Greens, I do believe the act of vandalism was unfortunate, and anyone who actively supports a candidate, whomever that may be, should be lauded for being politically active.

The fact is, though, that lumping all Kerry-Edwards, or those who just don’t support Bush-Cheney supporters in with vandals is narrow and thoughtless.

Cullin Weiskopf,

SGA prez clarifies ‘Big Red Roast’

Dear Eastern Community,

I would like to apologize for any confusion related to the upcoming Big Red Roast. The event will not feature the burning of any mascot, in effigy or otherwise. The offices planning this event have never had any intention of roasting anything with the exception of hot dogs as a part of the free food. While we are encouraging displays of school spirit, we are doing so in a constructive and supportive manner and would discourage any actions of violence.

With that said, I would like to point out that the Big Red Roast is going to be an exceptionally fun time. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 14 the Martin plaza by Blimpie’s will be electric with games, prizes, food and entertainment. Several booths will be available with free games. Each booth will have a drawing for a specific prize. Pizza, hot dogs, snacks and drinks will be free to all attendees, as will 500 free T-shirts. The entertainment will include music from 104.5 the Cat, a pep rally at 7:45 p.m. and live music from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Big Red Roast will be the biggest block party, of the year and I hope I’ll see you there.

Student Body President
